MADOL/ABU DHABI, MARCH 2025: In a landmark move to enhance access to healthcare, His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Cabinet Member and Minister of State at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, inaugurated the Madol Field Hospital in South Sudan. The hospital is supported by the UAE government in collaboration with the Government of South Sudan and is managed by Operonix, an operations and management subsidiary of Burjeel Holdings, a leading super-specialty healthcare services provider in the MENA region. This initiative, under the directives of the UAE leadership, reflects the country’s efforts to improve global medical care and enhance humanitarian response.

The opening was attended by His Excellency Mohamed Al Rashdi, UAE Ambassador to South Sudan; His Excellency Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organizations Affairs; Simon Uber Mawut, Governor of Bahr el Ghazal State in South Sudan; Ali Al Falasi, Director of Government Relations at Burjeel Holdings, and other dignitaries.

In his speech, H.E. Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan highlighted that the Madol Field Hospital, built by the UAE, is an embodiment of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s humanitarian legacy of goodness and giving. He emphasized that this initiative follows the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, reaffirming the nation’s dedication to its humanitarian mission of supporting communities and enhancing healthcare services globally.

he hospital is part of the UAE’s developmental efforts in Africa. With a capacity of 100 beds and several specialized clinics, it is the third field hospital built by the UAE to support Sudanese refugees after two field hospitals in Amdjarass and Abeche in Chad. The UAE has always been at the forefront of protecting civilians and alleviating their suffering, especially in light of the ongoing Sudanese crisis since April 2023. The UAE continues to provide rapid and effective humanitarian support to our Sudanese brothers. We thank all the parties supporting this project, and we affirm the UAE’s continued implementation of humanitarian and developmental initiatives to support communities in Africa and the world.

Offering Tertiary Healthcare

The Madol Field Hospital is equipped with cutting-edge medical technology and offers primary to tertiary healthcare services to an estimated 1.9 million people. It will also function as a referral center for primary and state civil hospitals, catering to communities in Madol, Aweil East, and Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.

The hospital is designed to address critical healthcare needs, including maternal and child healthcare, malnutrition management, and mental health support. It will also contribute to training local healthcare workers and strengthening the regional healthcare infrastructure.

The hospital provides a broad range of specialized services, including general medicine, pediatrics & neonatology, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, emergency medicine, anesthesiology, ear, nose & throat (ENT), internal medicine, laboratory services, pharmacy, and radiology. The facility is staffed with highly qualified doctors, nurses, and technicians, ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.
